On Sunday the Prime Minister announced a $2.3 billion election commitment package of subsidies to increase access to home batteries.

This commitment will provide a 30% discount on the upfront cost of a typical battery for homeowners with solar. 1 million homeowners are expected to benefit by 2030, each saving around $1,100 per year off their bills. Plus the same support for community facilities and organisations.

This is not only good for the people getting batteries, it helps all of us because home batteries helps ease the strain on our energy grid, caused by aging coal plants and expensive gas infrastructure.

There is still work to be done to ensure these benefits are shared fairly.  We must continue to press for everyone to access the benefits of the energy transition, particularly private renters, people living in social housing, and people in apartments.
