The Queensland Community Alliance is an Alliance of civil society organisations whose mission is to provide our community with a voice to express our common values and aspirations for a fair and just society.

Foundations of Community Organising training is based on the philosophy and practices developed by the Industrial Areas Foundation in over 65 years of successful organising. These ideas are translated to an Australian context to cover the essentials of community organising and how we implement it here in Queensland, with pockets of place based organising in SEQ, Gladstone and Townsville.

The training is interactive, thoughtful and made for people with all levels of experience. Concepts worked through include power, our roles as public people and what strong organisations look like. As practical as it is theoretical, we teach the tools to start building public relationships and working through the organising cycle to solve problems in our communities.

This training institute will be held in person on two consecutive Saturdays: 30 May and 6 June, 2026 and will run from 9am to 4:30pm each day. It is necessary for all attendees to commit to attending all sessions.

- Day 1: Saturday 30 May, 8:45am for 9am start til 4:30pm 

- Day 2: Saturday 6 June, 8:45am for 9am-4:30pm. 

Topics at Foundations training include:

• Building relationships for public action.

• Developing leadership.

• Strengthening our Organisations.

• Using Relational Power in the public sphere to take action together.

Member organisations are encouraged to send leaders and members to participate. It is an important space to connect with other organisations and to develop skills in community organising.

There is no cost to attend this training, though a $10 donation to cover the cost of lunch is appreciated.

Organisations interested in exploring partnership with the Alliance are also encouraged to participate and to get a feel for the coalition.
